Were it so, Christ would not have taught about adultery (Mat 5:28, 19:8). These 2 important areas of Self-control in a marriage is a must-have for every human. Self-control in so many areas of life, be it finance, spoken words, actions and most importantly in marital affairs and marital life.

Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Heb 11:6). In other words, without self-control, it is impossible to have a successful marriage. When you lack self-control. It is obvious you lack the ingredients to establish a successful marital life. Self-control enables you to avoid problems in life as well as in marriage. We discuss 2 important areas of self-control in marriage.

  1. FINANCIAL SELF CONTROL

This is an important area where you need to develop self-control. Financial self-control is pertinent. You need to control your expenses. With financial self-control, you have your priorities. It is very important to spend with the scale of preference.

You don’t buy everything you come across. Rather you know what is necessary and get them for the family. The children school fees are more important than an Italian jacket. Your house rent is more pertinent than a pair of trousers. You have to check and balance things before you spend.

  1. EMOTIONAL SELF CONTROL

When we talk about emotional self-control, we talk about emotional balance and emotional intelligence. You learn to control your emotions. Do not let what you see determine your direction. The saying, “all that glitters is not gold”, applies here. You don’t allow your erection to determine your direction. Do not overlook Emotional maturity.

You try and overlook some things when you see them. Emotional maturity is said to be as important as other areas. When you are emotionally imbalanced, your marriage and relationship will not succeed and prosper if you cannot control your emotions. When you control your emotions, you safeguard your marriage.

Jesus emphasized thisBut I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart”. 

You have to pocket your emotions. Your partner ought to be cherished, loved and respected. Avoid occasions of lust. Know where you go to and what you do there. Do not allow your spouse to suffer emotional trauma.

Your inability to manage and control your emotions. When you manage your emotions, you at the same time manage your chances of living an agony filled life. Your marriage is more important than what you see outside. Keep your spouse happy. You too will be happy.

Controlling your emotion will enable you to avoid sexually transmitted diseases. You safeguard your family from unforeseen circumstances, you prolong your life and avoid untimely death too. You have to develop emotional control in other to achieve a greater fit in life. Your marriage is also not exempted.
