A Brief History about Marquette University Global Scholar Award

Marquette University may be a private Jesuit research university established by the Society of Jesus as Marquette College on August 28, 1881, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was founded by John Martin Henni, who was the first Bishop of Milwaukee.

The university was named after the 17th-century missionary and explorer Father Marquette, SJ, with the intention to supply a reasonable Catholic education to the area’s emerging German immigrant population. Initially an all-male institution, Marquette became the first coeducational Catholic university in the world in 1909 when it began admitting female students.

Marquette is one among 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. The university is accredited by the upper Learning Commission and currently features a student body of about 12,000.

Marquette is one of the most important Jesuit universities within the United States, and therefore the largest private university in Wisconsin. Marquette is organized into 11 schools and colleges at its main Milwaukee campus, offering programs within the humanistic discipline, business, communications, education, engineering, law and various health sciences disciplines.

The university also administers classes in suburbs around the Milwaukee area and in Washington, DC. While most students are pursuing undergraduate degrees, the university has over 68 doctoral and academic degree programs, a school of law, a school of dentistry (which is the only one within the state), and 22 graduate certificate programs. The university’s varsity athletic teams, referred to as the Golden Eagles, are members of the large East Conference and compete within the NCAA’s Division I altogether sports.

The cost of university education is often expensive, which is why 90 percent of first-year students at Marquette receive aid within the sort of scholarships, grants and low-interest loans.  Marquette ranked 86th in the 2017 edition of America’s Best Colleges, released by U.S. News & World Report. Marquette University also features a moderate number of law students and dental students.

The scholar body is fifty-three percent female and sixty-eight percent identify themselves as Catholic. The retention rate for Marquette is high, with about ninety percent of scholars returning for his or her sophomore year.

Marquette administers an academic Opportunity Program (EOP) which is a federally funded TRIO program that’s intended to motivate and enable low-income and first-generation students whose parents don’t have baccalaureate degrees, to receive an education.

Eligible students, who have potential for fulfillment and enrolling at Marquette, are given a pre-enrollment summer program, a network of supportive services, aid assistance, academic counseling, specialized courses, seminars, tutoring, and academic and guidance.

As of April 2013, the Marquette University Alumni Association estimated that there have been approximately 110,000 living alumni, all of whom automatically belong to the MUAA. Marquette alumni add a spread of industries and professions.

Some have received Pulitzer Prizes, Fulbright Scholarships, Truman Scholarships, Academy Awards, Emmy Awards, and other honors. Those within the arts and media include comedian Chris Farley, actor Danny Pudi, actor Marc Alaimo, composer Paul W. Whear, actor Anthony Crivello, actor Don Ameche, sports columnist Steve Rushin, actor Ron Sheridan, Chicago Cubs broadcaster Len Kasper, Academy Award-winning production designer Adam Stockhausen, and Emmy Award-winning costumier Erin Slattery-Black.

Marquette University currently invites applications for the global Scholar award for Undergraduate Students within the 2020/2021 school term. Marquette University global Scholar award recognizes the importance of diverse world views and international perspectives within the Marquette University community.

This competitive award offers full-tuition supported a student’s high academic achievement, demonstrated interest in global perspectives and therefore the student’s potential for providing significant global contributions to the Marquette community.

The scholarship is renewable annually of the recipient’s four-year (eight-semester) undergraduate program, as long as the scholar remains in good academic standing.

Global Scholars are expected to initiate and contribute to global engagement activities within the campus and Milwaukee communities annually of the award. it’s awarded annually to up to 3 talented freshmen international students who will first enroll within the fall semester. Students in all academic fields are going to be considered.
